‘I Hate You, Dad’: Father of ‘Torture Victim’ on Being the Victim of Domestic Violence
Dad of “Tortured and Murdered” victim, Michael Collins, is angry his son, Michael C. Collins, isn’t receiving recognition from the “Tough Guy” award.
Collins said he’s angry that he can’t get his son the recognition he deserves for his bravery in the wake of his death.
“I feel like I’ve been betrayed,” Collins told TMZ.
“And I feel like they don’t have the right to honor my son in the way that they should honor the victims.”
Collins was the only one of the four officers involved in the July 2016 shooting to be awarded the award.
However, Collins’ son, Anthony Collins, didn’t receive any recognition from police after the shooting.
In an interview with TMZ, AnthonyCollins said that while the award is appreciated, he feels it should be reserved for the officers who have done the right thing and that he doesn’t believe Collins’ death was the result of a police officer.
“They didn’t shoot my dad,” he said.
“The cops that killed my dad, they dont deserve to be honored.
Its unfair to Michael, its unjust.”
In July, Collins and his son Anthony also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Las Vegas.
The lawsuit alleges that officers mistreated Collins by placing him in handcuffs, placing him on the floor of a vehicle, slamming him to the ground and kicking him.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the lawsuit claims that police officers also used excessive force and threatened Collins and Anthony.
Collins has since been released from jail.
He is currently in Las Vegas, where he is being treated for PTSD.
